Lymphadenitis vs. Parotis Hemangioma

Left picture: This is a case with a protracted lymphadenitis with an abscess recognizable from the outside. Right picture: The diagnosis is a parotis hemangioma. The parotis is a favorite site of this type of hemangioma.

In both children, at first glance, a large conspicuous mass is recognizable at the transition from the face to the lower jaw. Left picture: In this toddler the large mass seems to lie at the transition of the face to the lower jaw. On looking more closely the tumor lies at the left jaw angle and close to the chin; the overlying skin is dark-red and exhibits yellow scattered deposits. Right picture: In this newborn the mass lies in part in front of the ear; the overlying skin has no inflammatory signs, but in the direction of the lower jaw a cutaneous hemangioma.
