Hymenal Bridge vs. Duplication of the Vagina
Hymenal Bridge vs. Duplication of the Vagina Left picture: It is a harmless malformation, namely a hymenal bridge. Vagina and uterus are inconspicuous. Notice the delicate nature of this bridge in comparison to the fleshy and solid partition wall in the contralateral case.
Right picture: Here, the diagnosis is a duplication of the vagina, which also includes the uterus on ultrasound (= uterus didelphis).
In rectoanal and urological malformations in the girl, anomalies of the internal genitals are encountered more often than usually. They are not always recognizable, or cannot be suspected from the outside as in the presented case. Left picture: In this nearly 11-year-old girl a duplication of the introitus of the vagina was seen prior to an elective cystoscopy.
Right picture: This 3.5-year-old girl had a cystocolposcopy because of complex urological malformations. On stretching out sideways the buttocks the vestibule with two vaginal openings becomes visible in front of the anus.
