Cleft Lip vs. Facial Cleft

Left picture: This cleft and the slight cleft on the left side in the contalateral picture are regular cleft lips. Right picture: In this case of bilateral cleft lip the pathology on the right side is an oblique facial cleft. The pathology on the left side is a regular cleft lip.

Both young infants have a slight form of a bilateral cleft lip. Left picture: This bilateral cleft is less severe on the right side. Right picture: In this patient the left side is only a little involved in the cleft. Right picture: The preliminary evaluation is somewhat flawed by the fact that the right lid gap is wider and shifted in a medial and downward direction; in addition, a notch-like structure is visible in continuation of the cleft lip, leading to attenuation of the right lid gap.
