Types 2 (Intussusception)
Preparation of a resected intestinal segment following an acute abdominal emergency in a 6.7 year-old girl. The distal part of the sigmoid is held by the surgeon, and the proximal part of sigmoid is raised with a upholstered forceps; an increase in the volume of the latter sigmoid part and a transverse groove between both sigmoid parts is visible.
The increase of volume is caused by a large juvenile polyp of the sigmoid. This polyp has caused a rare type of invagination starting within the colon; this colonic invagination is simulated in the preparation, the transverse groove corresponds to the starting point of the intussusception.
