Abortive Meningocele vs. Hemangioma

Left picture: The diagnosis is an abortive meningocele. Right picture: In this case the diagnosis is a hemangioma. In every case of midline anomalies, x-rays with CT and/or MRI are necessary; in the case with an abortive meningocele a fine connection to the arachnoid was present which was also confirmed during surgery.

A defect of hair is recognizable in the midline over the vertex in both infants. Right picture: In this pathology a thin skin like paper attracts notice in the zone without hair, which in addition is discolored bluish. Left picture: In this case the local findings after shaving are similar to those of the contralateral side as shown in the picture at the bottom; but, in addition, a dent is recognizable.
