Smooth Sacral Mass (Differential Diagnosis as before)
turu_10a_n.jpg and turu_10b_n.jpg: Overview and close-up picture of a 2-day-old boy with a large, somewhat irregularly limited and smooth mass over the sacrum. The overlying skin is normal except for a tail-like appendage and a localized redness.
Based on the clinical findings (local signs and congenital neurogenic foot deformity of the left side), the additional examinations (plain x-ray of the lumbosacral region, ultrasound, and MRI), and the operative findings, the diagnosis is not minimal spinal dysraphism but (lipo)myelomeningocele (with lipoma).
