Nodose Goitre (Differential Diagnosis Thyroglossal Duct Cyst)
Figure tuha_18a_n.jpg and tuha_18b_n.jpg: The differential diagnosis of a thyroglossal duct cyst also includes acquired midline pathologies, mainly, lesions of the goitre and less frequently midline lymphoma (of submental, isthmic, and jugular site), or branches of tumors of the anterior and superior mediastinum. $$tuha_6??££See figure for comparison§§.:<:br:>
In contrast to the rare congenital struma and some infrequent pathologies, enlargement
of the goitre and other pathologies occur mainly in girls at puberty. These lesions are
the diffuse or nodose struma and the papillary carcinoma of the goitre.
Figure tuha_18a_n.jpg: In this 13.3-year-old girl a slight struma is visible from the front with two nodes which are asymmetrical concerning the site and the size.
Figure tuha_18b_n.jpg: The view from the left side in the same patient shows a more protruding right lobe of the thyroid gland. Work-up examinations are necessary to
exclude a change of the normal euthyroid metabolism, and/or a malignoma.
