Cavography (Nephroblastoma)
tuab_28a_n.jpg and tuab_28b_n.jpg: Cavography in a 4-year-old boy with a
retroperitoneal tumor of the right side.
tuab_28a_n.jpg: The inferior vena cava is dilated below the probable orifices of both renal veins. Notice the demonstration of the left calicopelvic system. Above there is a thin coating of the wall; the wall becomes visible by contrast and by a filling defect of the lumen which is even more dilated. There is the outflow of contrast by a collateral circulation.
tuab_28b_n.jpg: Following non-surgical treatment the dilatation of the inferior vena cava is regressive, and the outflow by collateral vessels is less impressive.
In addition, the filling defect of the upper part of the inferior vena cava is smaller and
the flow is better.
tuab_28a_n.jpg and tuab_28b_n.jpg: The diagnosis is a large tumor plug within the inferior vena cava starting from a right Wilms' tumor. There is a distinct decrease in the intravascular mass following preoperative treatment.
