Survey of the differential diagnoses of the red current jelly stool and melena. If the sign 'blood in the stool' or 'melaena' is used depending on the age, different differential diagnoses of an acute intussusception arise. If these terms are restricted to fresh or bright blood the list is reduced to the pathologies listed here.
