Natural History 2 (Intussusception)
Resected segment of small intestine in an infant with a far progressed acute intussusception.
The over 15 cm long intestinal segment is on the left side of the picture narrower and brighter than on the right side beginning at the 9 cm mark, with gross dilatation and black discoloration.
The later the invagination is diagnosed and the appropriate treatment is undertaken,
the more the natural history of the disease becomes obvious. In the presented case
the differently necrotic segment of small intestine of more than 15 cm of length must have been resected under bad general conditions. The tip of the former intussusceptum is visible on the left side !£anus_11_p£!.
