Types (Torsion of the Testis)
Drawing of the two main types of torsion of the testis (M. Bettex).
A: The spermatic cord is twisted above the tunica vaginalis. B: The torsion lies within
the testicular tunica vaginalis.
The pathology in A is called supravaginal torsion which is mainly observed perinatally. The findings in B correrspond to an intravaginal torsion which occurs mostly at puberty.
A rare type of torsion is twisting at the level of the connection between the testicle and the epididymis.
