Therapy (Gastroschisis)
4-month-old girl after primary closure of gastroschisis on the first day of life.
There is a non-irritant midline scar. The abdominal cavity is relatively long in comparison to the thorax. The infant is in good nutritional state; notice the fatty tissue indicating restored intestinal function.
In contrast to omphalocele, a primary closure may be performed mostly in gastroschisis. With simple sections and sutures a navel may also be imitated.
