IVU (Posterior Urethral Valves)
IVU of a 4-month-old infant with voiding disorder.
A large, longitudinal-oval bladder, a tortous and dilated left ureter, and a dilatation and deformity of the corresponding pelvicocaliceal system are visible. In spite of the delayed x-ray after i.v. contrast application, the right kidney now shows contrast excretion.
The diagnosis is a radiologically silent kidney (decreased or absent function of the right kidney) due to a primary dysplasia or a secondary obstructive megaureter with
pyelocaliectasia of the left side (long-term contrast accumulation in the ureter).
The voiding disorder consists of a chronic urinary retention (large longitudinal-oval bladder) with dribbling incontinence.
