Other Types (Neurogenic Thoracic Tumors)
metu_6_n.jpg: In this 10-year-old girl's x-ray a transverse-oval focus of the right superior thorax projecting onto the posterior part of the third rib attracts attention.
It is also a neurogenic tumor, a neurinoma of the C8 root of the cervicobrachial plexus of the right side.
In contrast to descendants of the grenz ray which are mostly located in the posterior mediastinum, neurogenic tumors of the peripheral nerves of the thoracic cavity and of the adjacent neck - as in the presented case - may also occur outside the mediastinum. The shape (transverse-oval) and the site (somewhat apart from the mediastinum) makes a ganglioneuroma unlikely.
