HornerĀ“s Syndrome (Neurogenic Mediastinal Tumor/Ganglioneuroma)
metu_02_n.jpg: The picture shows a boy with a right narrow lid fissure, miosis and enophthalmos = Horner's syndrome.
Some of the mediastinal tumors are symptomatic, the signs depending on the type of mediastinal tumor, its site, size and dignity. Horner's syndrome is pathognomonic for ganglioneuroma because the grenz ray has a topographical relation to this type of tumor; in the 7-year-old boy the right Horner's syndrome is recognizable by the miosis and the narrow lid fissure (the enophthalmos is only simulated). Other signs and symptoms are less characteristic, such as backache and pain in the shoulder or in the arm.
