Suture Signs (Craniosynostosis)
Figure kran_3a_n.jpg and kran_3b_n.jpg: Suture signs; a visible and palpable ridge of the fused suture is an example of a suture sign. A ridge is not always present. It is present in frontal and sagittal synostosis, less frequent in coronal synostosis, and rare in lambdoid synostosis.
Figure kran_3a_n.jpg: Infant with a sagittal synostosis with a bony ridge of the midline in front of the scar.
Figure kran_3b_n.jpg: Newborn with a bilateral coronal synostosis with a transverse ridge near the front. Notice the underdeveloped frontal area with insufficient bony roof of the orbits (= exophthalmos).
