Technique of Clinical Examination (Video)
In this video a toddler is examined because of suspected bilateral cryptorchidism first in a supine position.
The right testis is partially palpable and cannot be moved into the scrotum. By contrast, the left testis is palpable and can be moved into the scrotum where it remains without any aid from the outside. That way a clinical differentiation between a prefascial testis ('sliding testis') on the right side and a retractile testis on the left side is possible.
In the following cross-legged position it is possible to palpate the testis fully and to see it; however, without traction it returns immediately to its site at the external inguinal ring.
