Cohen Procedure (Reflux Therapy)
These drawings illustrate the procedure according to Cohen for the treatment of vesicoureteral reflux (M. Bettex).
Following removal of the refluxing ureter from the bladder wall (at the top on the left side) a tunnel is formed beneath the mucous membrane between the site of the former orifice and the contralateral orifice, and the ureter is pulled through to the other side (at the top on the right side). At the bottom the view at the end of re-implantation in uni- and bilateral reflux.
In the Leadbetter-Politano procedure, the tunnel is formed on the same side of the refluxing ureter.
