Types 4 (Renal Trauma)
IVU of a schoolchild with suspected renal trauma of the right side. The examination
shows a bladder filled with contrast. The ureters and the pyelocaliceal system is partially visible. The calices of the right kidney are dilated with extended necks and accumulation of contrast. In addition, irregularly distributed contrast accumulations are recognizable in projection to the right kidney with a lateral perirenal diffusion.
The injured right kidney is still functioning. Extravasation of contrast which is compatible with a grade 4 (IV) renal trauma (rupture), which means a renal laceration including the renal pelvis is present. The ureters and bladder are intact.
