Mass in the Bladder 2
hage_14a_n.jpg to hage_14c_n.jpg: Additional examinations and operative findings in the same patient as in hage_13_n.jpg. hage_14a_n.jpg: The IVU shows a large and irregular filling defect in the region of the supposed enlarged bladder and proximal urethra. The pelvicocaliceal system is normal on both sides.
hage_14b_n.jpg: View of the excised bladder from behind with the fallopian tubes,
uterus, vagina, and urethra. hage_14c_n.jpg: Opened bladder: The bladder lumen is filled up mainly by multilocular masses which have broken through the vertex of the bladder.
The diagnosis is (compare with hage_13_n.jpg) a rhabdomyosarcoma of the bladder, as already comfirmed by biopsy. The treatment of these malignant tumors is mainly a radical resection, which explains the mutilating procedure.
