Surgery 2 (Reflux)
Illustration of the performance of a semi-fundoplication. The upper part of the stomach is visible, and the displacement of parts of the fundus of the right side behind the esophagus to its right side.
In this semi-fundoplication according to Toupet (which is similar to Thal's procedure)
parts of the fundus are sutured to the lateral esophageal wall and somewhat in front.
The anterior wall of the esophagus remains free including the corresponding branch
of the vagus nerve. The spleen is visible on the left side and on the right side the left
hepatic lobe which is held to the side by a retractor. Following semi-fundoplication
belching and vomiting is more likely possible (for instance in case of meteorism or gastroenteritis) than $$haem_19??££in Nissen's fundoplication§§ .
