Leading Symtpom Hematemesis (Reflux)
haem_03_n.jpg: The picture shows a sector of a girl with chronic vomiting and failure to thrive. Below the right hand some tiny brown spots are visible on the surface of the bed. In addition, a larger and rounded spot with a slightly brown discoloration is recognizable.
It is an example of hematin vomiting which occurs in complicated gastroesophgeal reflux with reflux esophagitis. A distinct or gross hematemesis, such as in epistaxis is unusual in reflux. All the more it is important to look for traces of hematin (degraded blood) which corresponds to a hematemesis in reflux esophagitis (= complicated reflux).
