Epidural Hematoma (Differential Diagnosis Cerebral Concussion or Disturbance of Consciousness)
In every head injury the possibility of an intracranial hemorrhage or of a cerebral contusion must be considered; mainly in case of a severe continual disturbance and/or a secondary disturbance of consciousness, anisocoria and other focal neurological signs.
Following cranioplastic craniotomy, a large parietal epidural hematoma is recognizable
with blood clots and persistent arterial hemorrhage. In case of doubt a prompt CT must be performed which enables a quick treatment of the intracranial hemorrhage.
