Congenital Muscular Torticollis vs. Plexus Paralysis

Left picture: The diagnosis is a congenital muscular torticollis of the right side. Right picture: This child suffers from a perinatally acquired paresis of the left arm plexus.

One of the shoulders is elevated in these patients in comparison to the contralateral side. Left picture: The head is only slightly inclined to the right side. Right picture: The head is very distinctly tilted to the left side. On looking closely, the left shoulder cannot be elevated, and the mass of the muscles is less developed than that of the right arm. Left picture: The sternocleidomastoid muscle is prominent on the right side like a string, and the ipsilateral side of the face is less developed than the contralateral side.
