Inguinoscrotal Hernia vs. Testicular Hydrocele

Left picture: This patient has a recurrence of a left-sided inguinoscrotal hernia. Right picture: In this patient the diagnosis is a testicular hydrocele of the left side. During revision of the groin, also a small inguinal hernia of the same side was found.

Both this infant and this toddler have a swelling of the left inguinoscrotal region. Left picture: The scrotal raphe is displaced from the midline to the right side, and the swelling of the scrotum continues in the region of the left groin, which is recognizable by the enlargement of the soft tissue next to the penis in comparison to the normal right side; in addition, an inguinal scar is present, but not visible in the picture. Right picture: Here, the swelling of the scrotum which is positive on diphanoscopy stands in the forefront; on close inspection, an isolated inguinal swelling is also visible on the same side.
